Aldwych Station, originally opened in 1907 as Strand Station, became one of London’s most intriguing abandoned Underground stations after its closure in 1994. The station served as an air raid shelter during World War II and was used to protect valuable museum artifacts. Since its closure, numerous reports have emerged from film crews, security personnel, and urban explorers of paranormal activity within its disused platforms and tunnels.

Witnesses describe hearing phantom footsteps echoing through empty corridors, the sound of distant conversations, and the screech of trains that no longer run. Some have reported seeing shadowy figures on the platforms dressed in 1940s wartime clothing, appearing and disappearing in the blink of an eye. The most persistent legend involves the ghost of an actress who was killed during an air raid while sheltering in the station, with some claiming to hear her cries echoing through the tunnels late at night.

Film crews working in the station for movies and television productions have reported unexplained technical failures, sudden temperature drops, and an overwhelming sense of being watched in certain areas of the station. Some security guards refuse to patrol the deeper tunnels alone, particularly the sections that served as wartime shelters. The station’s isolation and preserved 1940s features create an atmosphere that many describe as stepping back in time, though some believe the past has never truly left Aldwych behind.
