The Black-Eyed Children
Children with pitch-black eyes appear at doors requesting entry.
The Black-Eyed Children
Since 1996, people have reported encounters with strange children whose eyes are completely black, lacking whites or pupils. These children appear at doors or in cars, requesting entry. Witnesses report overwhelming fear and dread.
The Origin
The first known account was posted by journalist Brian Bethel in 1996. He described two children approaching his car in a parking lot, requesting a ride. He noticed their completely black eyes and was overcome with terror.
The Pattern
Black-eyed children typically appear in pairs. They approach adults and request entry to homes, cars, or buildings. They are insistent but polite. Their requests to “let us in” escalate. Witnesses report paralyzing fear.
The Appearance
Besides their black eyes, the children appear normal but slightly wrong. Their skin may be pale. Their clothes seem outdated. They may speak in monotone. Something about them triggers primal fear in witnesses.
The Encounters
Reports come from across the United States and increasingly from other countries. The children appear at night. They may knock on doors for extended periods. No one who has let them in has reported what happens next.
The Theories
Explanations range from demons to aliens to mass hysteria. The phenomenon may be entirely folkloric, emerging from internet creepypasta culture. However, some witnesses report encounters before learning about the phenomenon.
Assessment
The black-eyed children may represent a modern legend or a genuine phenomenon. Either way, they have become embedded in contemporary supernatural folklore, and reports continue to emerge.
