Champ: The Lake Champlain Monster

Champ is a lake monster reportedly living in Lake Champlain, a 125-mile-long lake between Vermont and New York. With over 300 documented sightings since Samuel de Champlain’s alleged 1609 report, Champ is America’s most famous lake monster.

The Mansi Photograph

In 1977, Sandra Mansi photographed something resembling a large creature with a long neck rising from the water. The photograph remains controversial.

Description

Witnesses describe a long neck, small head, and large body, with length estimates from fifteen to fifty feet. The lake’s 125-mile length and 400-foot depth could theoretically support large animals.

Both Vermont and New York have passed resolutions protecting Champ from harm.
