The Lake Worth Monster

During the summer of 1969, residents around Lake Worth in Fort Worth, Texas, reported encounters with a bizarre creature: part man, part goat, covered in white fur. The monster sparked panic and drew crowds of monster hunters.

The First Sighting

On July 10, 1969, three couples parked near the lake reported being attacked by a large, white, hairy creature. It jumped on their car. They fled and reported to police, who found scratches on the vehicle.

The Description

Witnesses described a creature about seven feet tall, covered in white fur or scales, with a goat-like face. It was bipedal, aggressive, and strong. Some reported it throwing a spare tire over 500 feet.

The Hunt

As word spread, crowds gathered at the lake hoping to see the monster. Armed hunters patrolled the shores. Police struggled to maintain order. The atmosphere was a mixture of fear and carnival.

The Decline

Sightings decreased by November 1969 and essentially stopped. Whether the creature left, died, or never existed as reported remains unknown.

Assessment

The Lake Worth Monster may have been a hoax, a person in costume, or a genuine unknown creature. The concentrated sightings during one summer suggest something was seen. What it was has never been determined.
