The Loveland Frogman
Police officers have reported a bipedal frog-like creature near an Ohio town, creating one of America's strangest cryptid cases.
The Loveland Frogman
The Loveland Frogman is a bipedal creature approximately four feet tall with frog-like features, reported near Loveland, Ohio, since the 1950s. Most notably, two police officers encountered the creature in 1972, lending the case unusual credibility.
The 1955 Encounter
A businessman reported seeing three bipedal creatures under a bridge at night. They were approximately four feet tall with leathery skin and frog-like faces. One allegedly held a device that emitted sparks.
The 1972 Police Sightings
In March 1972, Officer Ray Shockey spotted what he thought was a dog on the road. As he approached, it stood up—a four-foot creature with a frog-like face. It fled toward the Little Miami River.
Two weeks later, Officer Mark Matthews saw a similar creature in the same area and reportedly shot at it.
Matthews later suggested he might have seen an escaped iguana, but this explanation has never fully satisfied researchers.
Assessment
The Loveland Frogman is notable for its police officer witnesses. Whether they encountered an exotic escaped pet, an unknown species, or something stranger, their testimony established one of Ohio’s most enduring mysteries.
