Momo: The Missouri Monster
In the summer of 1972, the small town of Louisiana, Missouri, was gripped by fear when multiple residents reported encounters with a large, hairy, foul-smelling creature named Momo (Missouri Monster).
The Harrison Encounter
On July 11, 1972, the Harrison family spotted a creature approximately six to seven feet tall, covered in black hair, carrying a dead dog. The stench was overwhelming. When Terry Harrison screamed, her brother shot at the creature, which retreated into the woods.
The Flap
The Harrison sighting triggered dozens of reports. Large three-toed footprints were discovered. Dogs acted strangely. Livestock was killed. Armed hunting parties searched the woods. Media descended on the town.
Witnesses consistently described a creature between six and eight feet tall, covered in dark hair, with no visible neck and an overwhelming odor. Some reported glowing orange eyes.
Sightings decreased after summer 1972, though occasional reports continued. Momo became part of Missouri folklore, joining America’s regional Bigfoot variants.
