Borgvattnet Vicarage

Borgvattnet Vicarage, built in 1876, has earned the reputation as Sweden’s most haunted building. Located in the remote Jämtland region, the house has frightened every vicar who has lived there since Chaplain Nils Hedlund first reported unusual occurrences in 1927.

Early Reports

Chaplain Hedlund was the first to document the hauntings. He reported laundry being torn from the line by invisible hands and rocking chairs moving on their own. His successors confirmed the activity and added their own experiences.

The Grey Lady

Multiple witnesses have reported a grey woman who appears in the building. She is often seen near the windows or seated in chairs. Some vicars woke to find her sitting at the foot of their beds, watching them. She vanishes when approached.

Other Phenomena

The vicarage is troubled by many spirits. Screaming is heard from empty rooms. Furniture moves on its own. Doors open and close without cause. An invisible force reportedly lifted one vicar out of his chair. Three women in grey have been seen moving through the garden.

Modern Era

The building no longer serves as a vicarage and has been converted into a bed and breakfast that embraces its haunted reputation. Guests can stay overnight in the most active rooms. Many report experiencing phenomena personally: objects moving, being touched by invisible hands, and seeing figures in their rooms.

Investigation

The vicarage has been investigated by paranormal researchers who have documented temperature anomalies, electromagnetic fluctuations, and recorded possible electronic voice phenomena.

Assessment

Borgvattnet Vicarage’s haunted reputation is built on nearly a century of reports from credible witnesses, including clergy who had no reason to fabricate stories. Whatever haunts the old vicarage shows no sign of departing.
