Monte Cristo Homestead

Monte Cristo in Junee, New South Wales, is considered Australia’s most haunted house. The 1885 property has seen numerous tragic deaths: a child dropped from a balcony, a maid who fell to her death, a servant burned in the stables, and a caretaker murdered.

After owner Christopher Crawley’s death in 1910, his widow Elizabeth became a recluse for twenty-three years, rarely leaving her bedroom.

Elizabeth’s stern ghost is the most frequently reported apparition. Other phenomena include ghostly servants and children, unexplained sounds, and moving objects. The current owners offer ghost tours and overnight stays.
