The Bell Witch Cave in Adams, Tennessee, sits on the former Bell family property where one of America’s most famous supernatural cases occurred. The entity known as the Bell Witch reportedly retreated into this cave after killing John Bell, and it may still reside there.

The History

From 1817 to 1821, the Bell family was tormented by an entity that spoke, threw objects, and physically attacked family members. It claimed to be the witch of a neighbor and vowed to kill John Bell. When Bell died in 1820, the entity took credit.

The Cave

The Bell Witch allegedly told the family it would retreat into the cave on their property. It promised to return in seven years and supposedly did, visiting John Bell Jr. According to legend, it said it would return again in 107 years.

The Modern Phenomena

Visitors to the cave report strange occurrences. Photographs show unexplained shapes and figures. Electronic voice phenomena have been recorded. Some visitors report being touched, pushed, or scratched. Animals refuse to enter.

The cave and property are open for tours. Guides report regular paranormal activity. Guests have had personal items thrown at them. Some have heard the witch’s voice or her distinctive laugh.
