The Phoenix Lights
Thousands witnessed a massive V-shaped formation of lights over Arizona.
The Phoenix Lights
On March 13, 1997, thousands of people across Arizona witnessed a massive V-shaped formation of lights passing silently over Phoenix. The event became one of the most witnessed UFO events in history.
The Sighting
Between 7:30 and 10:30 PM, witnesses reported a V-shaped formation of lights, sometimes described as one massive craft, passing from Nevada through Arizona. The formation was estimated to be over a mile wide.
The Witnesses
Witnesses included the Governor of Arizona, pilots, police officers, and thousands of ordinary citizens. Videos and photographs were captured. Many described the object as blocking out the stars, suggesting a solid structure.
Official Explanation
The military claimed the lights were flares dropped during training exercises at a distant range. This explanation was widely rejected by witnesses who saw the lights before the military exercise and described very different behavior.
Governor’s Response
Governor Fife Symington initially mocked the sighting in a press conference featuring an aide in an alien costume. Years later, he admitted he had seen the lights himself and believed they were otherworldly.
Assessment
The Phoenix Lights represent a mass sighting that official explanations cannot adequately address. Whatever passed over Arizona that night was seen by thousands and remains unexplained.
