The Pelesit
According to documented folklore:
The Pelesit:
- A spirit created from a dead tongue
- Appears as a cricket
- Enters victims first
- Prepares them for the Polong
- Controlled by a witch
The Polong
The Polong:
- A more powerful spirit
- Created from a murder victim
- Bottle-sized spirit
- Drinks blood from its master
- Follows the Pelesit into victims
Creation
To create them:
- Kill a man by black magic
- Take his tongue (Pelesit)
- Collect his blood (Polong)
- Perform dark rituals
- Feed them blood regularly
Effects
Victims experience:
- Madness
- Violence
- Speaking in tongues
- Revealing secrets
- Death if untreated
Treatment
To remove them:
- A bomoh (traditional healer) is needed
- They may reveal their master
- Under questioning
- The master can be prosecuted
