The Entity Case
A California woman reported being physically attacked by invisible entities, inspiring a major Hollywood film.
The Entity Case
Between 1974 and 1976, Doris Bither reported being repeatedly attacked by invisible entities in her Culver City home. The case was investigated by UCLA researchers and adapted into the 1982 film “The Entity.”
The Attacks
Doris claimed that three male entities would physically assault her while she was in bed. She displayed bruises and bite marks attributed to the attacks. Her children witnessed some phenomena.
Investigation
Kerry Gaynor and Barry Taff of UCLA’s parapsychology laboratory investigated. They witnessed strange lights and during one session, approximately thirty people claimed to observe a greenish mist form into a humanoid shape.
Controversy
The psychological complexity of the case makes interpretation challenging. Some researchers theorized Doris’s psychological state generated the phenomena through psychokinesis.
The case remains one of the most disturbing poltergeist accounts in modern history.
