The Iacu Poltergeist

In 1965, the Medeiros family of Iacu, Bahia, Brazil, was plagued by a poltergeist that pelted their home with stones. The case was witnessed by police, journalists, and researchers who documented the unexplainable stone falls.

The Phenomena

Stones fell on and inside the house from unknown sources. They appeared to materialize in midair. Some were hot to the touch. The bombardment continued for weeks regardless of observation.

The Witnesses

Police officers and journalists camped at the house to observe. They saw stones appear inside closed rooms. They watched stones fall that could not have been thrown by human hands. The phenomena continued under observation.

The Focus

A teenage girl in the household appeared to be the focus. The activity was strongest in her presence and decreased when she was away. She showed no conscious awareness of causing the events.

The Investigation

Brazilian parapsychologist Hernani Guimarães Andrade investigated the case. He documented the phenomena and collected witness testimony. The case added to his extensive study of Brazilian poltergeist events.
