The San Pedro Haunting

The San Pedro haunting, which plagued Jackie Hernandez and her children from 1989 to 1996, became one of the most investigated poltergeist cases in California history. The case featured violent physical manifestations, including an attack that nearly killed a photographer, and was documented extensively by paranormal researchers.

The Beginning

Jackie Hernandez moved into a small bungalow in San Pedro, California, in 1989. Almost immediately, strange phenomena began. She heard disembodied voices, smelled foul odors with no source, and witnessed objects moving on their own.

The activity escalated rapidly. Blood dripped from walls. Severed human heads appeared and disappeared. Jackie reported being pushed, shoved, and having objects thrown at her. Her young children witnessed many of the events.

Investigation

Paranormal investigator Barry Conrad began documenting the case with photographer Jeff Wheatcraft. During one investigation, Wheatcraft was attacked in the attic. An unseen force wrapped a clothesline cord around his neck and suspended him from the rafters. He barely survived.

The investigators captured numerous photographs showing mysterious lights, shadows, and apparent apparitions. Video equipment captured objects moving without visible cause. The case became one of the most well-documented hauntings of its era.

The Entity

Jackie believed the haunting was connected to a man who had died in the house decades earlier. Research revealed that a sailor named Herman Hendrickson had died in the home in the 1930s. Some investigators theorized his spirit was responsible for the phenomena.

The entity seemed to target Jackie specifically, following her when she temporarily moved to other locations. The violence of the attacks was unusual even for poltergeist cases.

Resolution

The haunting continued for seven years before gradually diminishing. Jackie eventually moved away from San Pedro, and the activity decreased significantly at her new location. The case was featured on the television series “Sightings” and in multiple documentaries.
