The Eleonore Zugun Poltergeist Possession
A Romanian girl was bitten, scratched, and attacked by an invisible entity she called Dracu.
The Eleonore Zugun Poltergeist Possession
Eleonore Zugun was a Romanian peasant girl who became the focus of violent poltergeist phenomena and apparent possession. Her case was studied by some of the most prominent psychical researchers of the era, including Harry Price.
The Beginning
When Eleonore was 12, she picked up money she found on the road. Local legend said money left on roads was an offering to the devil. Soon after, objects began flying around her, and she began being attacked by invisible forces.
The Attacks
Eleonore was bitten and scratched by something no one could see. Teeth marks appeared on her skin. Needle scratches formed words and symbols. Objects flew at her violently. She attributed the attacks to “Dracu,” a Romanian term for the devil.
The Investigation
Countess Wassilko-Serecki brought Eleonore to Vienna and later London for study. Harry Price documented the phenomena extensively. During controlled observations, stigmata-like marks appeared on Eleonore’s skin while she was restrained and watched.
The Phenomena
Price documented objects moving, furniture overturning, and marks appearing on Eleonore’s skin in real-time. He could find no evidence of fraud. The phenomena decreased as Eleonore reached adolescence and eventually ceased.
Assessment
The Eleonore Zugun case remains one of the best-documented poltergeist possessions in history. The combination of physical attacks, visible stigmata, and credible scientific witnesses makes it a cornerstone case in psychical research.
