The Belgian UFO Wave
Thousands witnessed triangular craft over Belgium, tracked by radar and pursued by F-16 fighters.
The Belgian UFO Wave
Between November 1989 and April 1990, Belgium experienced one of the most thoroughly documented UFO waves in history. Over 13,500 people reported seeing triangular craft with bright lights. The Belgian Air Force scrambled F-16 fighters and released radar recordings to the public.
The Sightings
The wave began on November 29, 1989, when a triangular craft with bright lights at each corner was observed over the town of Eupen. Over the following months, similar craft were seen across Belgium. Witnesses included police officers, military personnel, and ordinary citizens.
The Photograph
On April 4, 1990, a now-famous photograph captured a triangular object with lights. While later shown to be a hoax, the photograph did not diminish the credibility of the thousands of eyewitness reports.
The F-16 Intercept
On March 30-31, 1990, the Belgian Air Force scrambled two F-16 fighters to intercept an object tracked on radar. The pilots reported visual contact with a triangular craft. Radar recordings showed the object making maneuvers beyond the capabilities of known aircraft, including dropping from 10,000 feet to near ground level in seconds.
Official Response
The Belgian Air Force took the unusual step of cooperating fully with civilian researchers. They released radar data and pilot interviews, acknowledging they could not explain the sightings.
Assessment
The Belgian UFO wave stands out for official military involvement and documentation. The radar data, multiple trained witnesses, and government transparency make it one of the strongest UFO cases on record, regardless of one’s conclusions about the craft’s origin.
