The Betty Andreasson Abduction
A deeply religious woman's abduction account included beings she interpreted as angels conducting a spiritual mission.
The Betty Andreasson Abduction
On January 25, 1967, Betty Andreasson claimed to have been abducted by beings who entered her Massachusetts home while her family was paralyzed. Her deeply religious interpretation of the experience set her case apart from typical abduction accounts.
The Event
According to Betty, the lights in her home flickered and then beings entered through the walls. Her seven children and father were rendered immobile. The beings, described as about four feet tall with large heads and gray skin, led her outside to a waiting craft.
The Experience
Aboard the craft, Betty underwent examinations similar to those described in other abduction cases. However, she also reported a profound spiritual experience, encountering a being of light and receiving a message of great importance. She interpreted the beings as angels.
The Investigation
Betty did not report her experience until 1975 when she responded to a UFO research group’s advertisement. Under hypnotic regression, she recalled detailed memories of the event. The investigation lasted years, producing extensive documentation.
The Family
Uniquely, Betty’s family also provided testimony. Her daughter was later hypnotized and recalled witnessing part of the event. Her father confirmed the strange occurrences that night.
Assessment
The Betty Andreasson case is notable for its religious overtones, which either represent the subjective interpretation of a genuine phenomenon or suggest that the experience was shaped by Betty’s pre-existing beliefs. Her sincerity has never been seriously questioned.
