During the summer of 1977, the coastal town of Bexhill-on-Sea in East Sussex experienced a series of UFO sightings. Multiple witnesses reported strange lights over the sea and town, prompting local newspaper coverage and investigation.

The Location

Bexhill is a quiet resort town on the Sussex coast, known for its Edwardian architecture and the De La Warr Pavilion. In 1977, it became an unlikely UFO hotspot as residents reported a series of unusual aerial phenomena.

The First Sighting

In late June, residents near the seafront observed a group of bright lights hovering over the English Channel. The lights were described as orange or amber, moving in formation. They remained visible for approximately fifteen minutes before ascending rapidly and disappearing.

The Subsequent Events

Over the following weeks, similar lights were reported above different parts of town. Witnesses described formations of lights that moved silently, hovered, and performed maneuvers impossible for conventional aircraft. Some witnesses reported seeing structured craft behind the lights.

The Beach Incident

One notable sighting occurred when a family on the beach observed a disc-shaped object emerge from the sea. The object hovered briefly, water streaming from its surface, before accelerating inland at tremendous speed. The family reported the incident to local authorities.

The Investigation

Local UFO researchers collected witness statements and attempted to correlate the sightings. No conventional explanation was found. The Ministry of Defence received reports but provided no public explanation.
