Operation Plate: The Colares UFO Attacks
UFOs attacked villagers with beams of light, prompting a Brazilian military investigation.
Operation Plate: The Colares UFO Attacks
In 1977, the island community of Colares in northern Brazil experienced a terrifying wave of UFO attacks. Residents were injured by beams of light from unidentified objects, prompting the Brazilian Air Force to launch Operation Plate.
The Attacks
Beginning in October 1977, residents reported being attacked by light beams from UFOs. The beams caused burns, puncture wounds, and weakness. Two women reportedly died from their injuries. Residents called the phenomenon “Chupa-Chupa” (sucker-sucker).
The Investigation
Captain Uyrangê Hollanda led a Brazilian Air Force team to investigate. Over four months, they documented approximately 2,000 sightings and hundreds of photographs. Hollanda became convinced the phenomenon was genuine.
The Evidence
Military photographs show luminous objects of various shapes. Medical examinations of victims showed unusual wounds consistent with radiation or focused energy. The documentation remained classified for decades.
The Aftermath
Hollanda retired and eventually spoke publicly about what he witnessed. He stated that the objects were extraterrestrial and that the government knew but concealed the truth. He died shortly after going public.
Assessment
Operation Plate represents the most extensive official military investigation of UFO attacks ever conducted. The scale of the phenomenon, the physical injuries, and the military documentation make Colares one of the most significant and troubling UFO events in history.
