The Colares UFO Attacks
Residents of a Brazilian island were attacked by UFOs that left burn marks and drew blood.
The Colares UFO Attacks
In 1977, the residents of Colares Island in the Brazilian Amazon experienced months of UFO attacks. Objects shone beams of light that burned skin and appeared to draw blood from victims. The Brazilian Air Force investigated in Operation Saucer.
The Attacks
Beginning in October 1977, residents reported being attacked by lights from UFOs. Victims described a beam of light that rendered them paralyzed while leaving burn marks. Some claimed the lights drew blood through their skin.
The Victims
Hundreds of people reported attacks. Dr. Wellaide Carvalho, who treated victims, documented burn marks consistent with radiation exposure. She reported two deaths from the encounters. The marks were called “chupa-chupa” (sucker-sucker).
Operation Saucer
The Brazilian Air Force launched Operation Saucer (Operação Prato) to investigate. Military personnel observed UFOs firsthand. Hundreds of photographs were taken. The investigation produced thousands of pages of documentation.
The Objects
Witnesses described various craft including cylinders, spheres, and discs. They moved silently and displayed advanced maneuverability. The beams of light appeared to target specific individuals.
The Suppression
Operation Saucer was classified. Captain Uyrangê Hollanda, who led the investigation, later committed suicide, reportedly due to distress over what he had witnessed. Documents were eventually released confirming the investigation occurred.
Assessment
The Colares flap represents one of the most alarming UFO cases on record. Physical attacks on civilians, military investigation, and sustained activity over months distinguish it from typical sightings. The Brazilian government’s confirmation adds credibility.
