The Colares UFO Flap
UFOs attacked villagers with beams of light, leaving physical injuries that were documented by the Brazilian military.
The Colares UFO Flap
Between 1977 and 1978, the Brazilian island of Colares experienced an intense UFO wave that allegedly left residents with physical injuries. The Brazilian Air Force launched Operation Prato to investigate, documenting hundreds of sightings and photographing the phenomena.
The Events
Beginning in late 1977, residents of Colares reported being attacked by unusual objects in the sky. Lights would descend and fire beams at people, particularly women. Victims reported burns, puncture wounds, and blood loss. The attacks were so frequent that people began keeping watch at night.
The Injuries
Victims displayed physical effects that doctors could not explain. Small puncture wounds, sometimes in pairs, appeared on the bodies of those attacked. Some victims reported losing blood. The marks were nicknamed “vampire bites” by locals.
Operation Prato
The Brazilian Air Force dispatched a team to investigate. Over four months, they photographed UFOs, interviewed witnesses, and documented injuries. The official report was classified for decades before being released.
The Lead Investigator
Captain Uyrangê Hollanda led the investigation. After retirement, he spoke publicly about the case, confirming the phenomena were genuine and admitting they had no explanation. He died shortly after giving interviews about the case.
Assessment
The Colares flap is unusual for the physical harm allegedly caused by UFOs and the extent of military documentation. The injuries documented by Operation Prato raise disturbing questions about the nature and intent of the objects involved.
