The Cosford-Shawbury UFO Incident

On the night of March 30-31, 1993, a massive triangular craft was observed by hundreds of witnesses as it crossed England from Devon to Shropshire. RAF personnel at two bases observed and reported the object, and the Ministry of Defence investigated.

The Wave

Beginning around 9 PM on March 30, reports flooded in from across southwestern and central England. Witnesses described a triangular object with bright lights at each corner. The object moved slowly and silently, at odds with its apparent size.

The RAF Observations

At RAF Cosford in Shropshire, a meteorological officer and other personnel observed the object as it approached the base. They described it as triangular, larger than any aircraft they knew, moving slowly and silently. The officer estimated it at 200 feet across.

RAF Shawbury

At nearby RAF Shawbury, the guard commander observed the object hovering near the base. He reported a beam of light descending from the craft and sweeping the ground. The object then accelerated away at incredible speed. His detailed report was forwarded to the Ministry of Defence.

The Investigation

Nick Pope, then working for the MOD’s UFO desk, investigated the incident. He described it as the most significant case he examined during his tenure. The concentration of credible military witnesses and detailed reports made the case impossible to dismiss.

The Official Response

The MOD could not explain the sightings. The object was not a known aircraft, balloon, or satellite. Pope’s conclusion was that something genuinely unexplained had crossed England that night, observed by hundreds and confirmed by trained military personnel.

Assessment

The Cosford-Shawbury incident represents one of the strongest UFO cases in British history. The involvement of multiple RAF bases, trained observers, and the systematic nature of the reports elevates it beyond typical sighting reports.
