The Eastbourne Seafront UFO
Multiple witnesses observed a glowing object above the English Channel.
The Eastbourne Seafront UFO
In August 1987, multiple witnesses along Eastbourne’s seafront observed a large, glowing object hovering above the English Channel. The sighting lasted several minutes and was reported to local authorities.
The Location
Eastbourne’s long seafront, stretching from the Redoubt to the foot of Beachy Head, provides excellent views across the English Channel. On a clear evening in August 1987, those views included something unexplained.
The Sighting
Shortly after 10 PM, witnesses on the promenade observed a bright, orange-white object above the sea. The object was estimated to be approximately a mile offshore and several hundred feet above the water. It hovered motionlessly.
The Description
Witnesses described the object as disc or oval-shaped, with a steady glow rather than blinking lights. Some reported seeing smaller lights moving around the main object. The phenomenon was silent.
The Duration
The object remained visible for approximately fifteen minutes before gradually ascending and accelerating toward the east, disappearing in seconds. The rapid departure ruled out conventional aircraft or balloons.
The Witnesses
Observers included couples on evening walks, pub patrons who came outside to look, and residents of seafront properties. Their independent descriptions were consistent.
Assessment
The Eastbourne seafront sighting of 1987 represents a credible multiple-witness UFO case. The duration and number of observers make misidentification unlikely. The case remains unexplained.
