The Gulf Breeze UFO Sightings
A Florida man photographed UFOs repeatedly in a controversial case.
The Gulf Breeze UFO Sightings
Beginning in November 1987, Ed Walters of Gulf Breeze, Florida, began photographing UFOs that he claimed appeared near his home. The case generated over 200 sightings by residents and sparked intense debate about authenticity.
The Photographs
Walters produced dozens of photographs and videos showing structured craft with bright lights. The images were clearer than typical UFO photos. He claimed the craft appeared repeatedly and he was being followed.
The Controversy
Skeptics questioned the photographs from the beginning. A model UFO was later found in a house Walters had previously owned, suggesting hoax. Walters denied fraud and passed multiple polygraph tests.
Other Witnesses
Beyond Walters, numerous Gulf Breeze residents reported seeing unusual craft during the same period. Some of these witnesses were completely independent of Walters. The wave of sightings was real.
The Investigation
MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) investigated extensively. Photographic experts disagreed on authenticity. Some found the photos genuine; others identified signs of manipulation.
Assessment
Gulf Breeze remains controversial. Walters’ photos may have been faked, but independent witnesses saw something unusual over Gulf Breeze. The truth is murky.
