The Kecksburg Incident
An acorn-shaped object crashed in Pennsylvania and was quickly recovered by the military.
The Kecksburg Incident
On December 9, 1965, something crashed in the woods near Kecksburg, Pennsylvania. Witnesses described a bronze, acorn-shaped object with strange symbols. The military quickly sealed off the area and removed the object. What actually crashed remains unknown.
The Crash
That evening, a brilliant fireball was observed across six states and Canada. Most assumed it was a meteor. In Kecksburg, residents reported the object had not burned up but crashed in the woods. Some went to investigate.
The Object
Witnesses who reached the crash site before military arrival described an acorn-shaped metallic object, about the size of a small car. The base had a rim with strange symbols resembling Egyptian hieroglyphics. The object was bronze or gold colored.
The Military
Within hours, the area was sealed by military personnel. Residents were ordered to leave. A flatbed truck was seen leaving the area, covered by a tarp concealing a large object. The military denied recovering anything.
The Theories
Some believe the object was a Soviet satellite or space debris. Others suggest it was an experimental Nazi “Die Glocke” device recovered by the Americans. UFO researchers believe it was an extraterrestrial craft. The military maintains nothing was found.
The Investigation
In 2005, NASA admitted it had made a mistake by misplacing the original files on the incident. A lawsuit forced the release of some documents, but they were heavily redacted and provided no answers.
Assessment
The Kecksburg incident remains one of the most compelling UFO crash cases. Multiple witnesses saw an object with unusual characteristics. The rapid military response and ongoing secrecy suggest something significant was recovered that night.
