The Kent Triangle UFO Sightings

Throughout the 1990s, Kent experienced a wave of sightings involving large, triangular craft. These objects, similar to those reported in Belgium in 1989-1990, were observed by hundreds of witnesses across the county. The phenomenon has never been explained.

The Wave

Beginning in the early 1990s and continuing through the decade, residents of Kent reported seeing large, dark, triangular objects in the sky. The sightings occurred across the county, from the coast to the inland areas, involving diverse witnesses.

The Description

Witnesses consistently described a triangular or boomerang-shaped craft with lights at each corner and sometimes in the center. The objects were estimated at 100-300 feet in span. They moved slowly and silently, hovering for extended periods before accelerating away.

The Channel Tunnel Connection

Some researchers noted that the sightings coincided with construction of the Channel Tunnel, completed in 1994, and its early years of operation. Whether this connection is meaningful or coincidental remains debated.

The M20 Sightings

Multiple sightings occurred along the M20 motorway, Kent’s main route to the Channel Tunnel. Drivers reported seeing triangular craft hovering above or alongside the road. Some experienced vehicle electrical systems malfunctioning during sightings.

The Ministry of Defence

The MOD received numerous reports of the Kent triangles but offered no public explanation. Some witnesses believed the craft were secret military aircraft; others that their capabilities exceeded any known technology.

Assessment

The Kent triangle sightings represent a significant UFO flap that has received less attention than similar events in Belgium. The concentration of sightings in a relatively small area over a decade suggests something unusual was occurring.
