The Levelland UFO Case
Multiple witnesses reported a glowing egg-shaped object that stopped car engines across West Texas.
The Levelland UFO Case
On the night of November 2-3, 1957, over a dozen witnesses in and around Levelland, Texas, reported encountering a glowing egg-shaped object that caused their vehicle engines to stall and headlights to fail. The case remains one of the best-documented electromagnetic effect cases in UFO history.
The Sightings
Beginning around 10:50 PM, calls flooded the Levelland sheriff’s office. Drivers reported their cars stopping as a glowing object approached. When the object departed, the vehicles would restart normally.
The Witnesses
The witnesses included two farmers, a truck driver, a couple, a college student, and eventually the sheriff and fire marshal themselves. None knew each other, yet all described essentially the same experience: a glowing object, engine failure, then normal function after the object left.
The Object
Descriptions were consistent: an egg-shaped or oval object, approximately 200 feet long, glowing with a blue-green or red light. It approached vehicles on the road, hovered nearby, and then departed at high speed.
The Investigation
Project Blue Book investigated and attributed the sightings to ball lightning and wet conditions, despite the fact that the weather was dry and ball lightning does not cause electromagnetic effects. This explanation satisfied few.
Assessment
The Levelland case represents one of the strongest electromagnetic effect cases on record. Multiple independent witnesses described the same phenomena involving engine interference, a characteristic that remains unexplained.
