Britain's Roswell
U.S. military personnel encountered a landed UFO near their base in England.
Britain’s Roswell
The Rendlesham Forest incident of December 1980 is considered Britain’s most significant UFO case. Over three nights, U.S. Air Force personnel from RAF Woodbridge encountered a landed craft, observed strange lights, and documented elevated radiation levels.
The First Night
On December 26, 1980, security patrol observed strange lights descending into Rendlesham Forest. Staff Sergeant Jim Penniston and Airman First Class John Burroughs investigated and encountered a triangular craft covered in symbols. Penniston touched it and later recorded pages of binary code.
The Second Night
Additional lights were observed. Deputy base commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt led a team into the forest. They observed a flashing red light that moved through the trees. A bright object was seen in the sky.
The Third Night
Strange lights appeared again. Halt recorded his observations on audio tape. Radiation levels at the landing site were elevated. Impressions in the ground were documented.
The Documentation
Halt submitted an official memo to the Ministry of Defence describing the incidents. This memo remains one of the most significant official UFO documents. The audio recording of his investigation was later released.
The Investigation
The MoD initially dismissed the case but later released thousands of pages of documents. Witnesses have spoken publicly for decades. The case has been the subject of books, documentaries, and continued investigation.
Assessment
The Rendlesham incident combines multiple credible witnesses, official documentation, physical traces, and lasting attention. Whatever happened in those woods, British and American military personnel encountered something extraordinary.
