The Rendlesham Forest Incident
U.S. Air Force personnel encountered a craft in a British forest in what became 'Britain's Roswell.'
The Rendlesham Forest Incident
On December 26-28, 1980, U.S. Air Force personnel stationed at RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk, England, encountered unexplained lights and a possible craft in Rendlesham Forest. The incident, backed by official documentation, is often called “Britain’s Roswell.”
The First Night
Early on December 26, servicemen noticed strange lights descending into the forest. Investigating, they encountered a metallic triangular craft with colored lights. The craft moved through the trees before departing at impossible speed. Animals at a nearby farm were in a frenzy.
The Investigation
The next day, investigators found three impressions in the ground forming a triangle, along with burn marks on nearby trees. Radiation readings at the site were significantly higher than background levels.
The Second Night
On December 28, Deputy Base Commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt led a larger team into the forest. His voice recording captures his reactions as the team observed lights moving through the trees and beaming down rays of light. The lights eventually departed at high speed.
Official Records
Halt filed an official memo to the British Ministry of Defence documenting the incident. This memo, later released under Freedom of Information laws, provides official acknowledgment of the events. Other documentation and audio recordings have since emerged.
Assessment
The Rendlesham incident’s strength lies in its official documentation and the credentials of its witnesses. Military personnel at a nuclear-capable base documented encounters with unexplained technology. Whatever occurred in that forest, it was taken seriously at the highest levels.
