The Shag Harbour UFO Incident

On October 4, 1967, multiple witnesses saw a large, lit object crash into the waters off Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia. The incident was investigated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian military, and Canadian Coast Guard, who found nothing but a strange yellow foam on the water’s surface.

The Sighting

At approximately 11:20 PM, at least eleven witnesses observed a large object with four bright lights descend at approximately 45 degrees and enter the water. Some witnesses initially thought it was an aircraft crash.

The Response

Fishermen immediately launched boats to search for survivors. When they reached the area, they found no wreckage, only a thick yellowish foam they had never seen before. The foam carried a sulfuric smell.

RCMP officers arrived and also observed lights in the water before they sank or extinguished. A search was launched involving Coast Guard cutters and military divers.

The Investigation

The search found no survivors, no wreckage, and no conventional explanation. The Canadian Department of National Defence classified the incident as a genuine UFO (unidentified flying object) and filed it under that category.

Declassified documents confirm the official nature of the investigation and the lack of any conventional explanation.

Theories

Some researchers have proposed that the object moved underwater to a nearby location, where additional military activity was later observed. This remains speculative.

Assessment

The Shag Harbour incident is Canada’s Roswell: a UFO crash with multiple witnesses and official investigation. Unlike most cases, the Canadian government acknowledged the incident as unexplained.
