The Shag Harbour UFO Incident
A UFO crashed into the ocean and was witnessed by dozens of people.
The Shag Harbour UFO Incident
On October 4, 1967, multiple witnesses in Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia, observed a large, illuminated object crash into the waters of the harbour. Rescue teams found a yellow foam on the surface. Divers reportedly located the object on the ocean floor.
The Sighting
At approximately 11:20 PM, residents observed four orange lights in formation descending toward the harbour. The lights appeared to be attached to a large, dark object approximately 60 feet in diameter. The object struck the water with a flash and whistle.
The Response
Witnesses assumed an aircraft had crashed and called the RCMP. Coast Guard vessels were dispatched. Fishermen searched the water. Yellow foam was found floating on the surface, but no survivors, wreckage, or aircraft were located.
The Investigation
The Canadian government investigated. RCMP files confirm the incident was taken seriously. No aircraft was reported missing. The military conducted a search but officially found nothing.
The Recovery Rumors
According to some accounts, Canadian and American naval divers located the object on the ocean floor. It was allegedly joined by a second object. The objects supposedly remained on the bottom for days before departing on their own.
The Classification
Documents from the Canadian government treat the case as a genuine unknown. It is one of the few UFO incidents to receive official acknowledgment from a national government as unexplained.
Assessment
The Shag Harbour incident combines mass witnesses, official investigation, and physical traces. What crashed into those Canadian waters in 1967 was never publicly identified. The case remains Canada’s most significant UFO event.
