The Socorro UFO Landing
A police officer witnessed an egg-shaped craft and small beings in a case that remains unexplained.
The Socorro UFO Landing
On April 24, 1964, Socorro police officer Lonnie Zamora witnessed one of the most credible UFO encounters ever documented. He observed an egg-shaped craft on the ground with two small beings near it, before it took off with a roar.
The Encounter
Zamora was chasing a speeding car when he heard a roar and saw a flame in the sky. Abandoning the chase, he investigated and discovered a white, egg-shaped object resting on landing legs in a ravine. Two small figures in white coveralls stood near it.
The Beings
Zamora described the beings as small and humanoid, roughly the size of children. They wore what appeared to be white coveralls. When they noticed Zamora approaching, they entered the craft.
The Departure
The craft emitted a loud roar and blue-orange flame, then rose slowly before accelerating away. Zamora was knocked down by the sound. The craft flew silently toward the mountains and disappeared.
The Evidence
Investigators found four depressions where the landing legs had been. Burned plants and fused sand marked where the flame had touched. The physical evidence matched Zamora’s account precisely.
Assessment
The Socorro case has never been explained. Zamora was a reliable witness with no motive to fabricate. J. Allen Hynek of Project Blue Book considered it among the most puzzling cases he investigated. What landed in that ravine remains unknown.
