The Todmorden Abduction
A police officer experienced an alien encounter while on duty.
The Todmorden Abduction
In the early hours of November 28, 1980, Police Constable Alan Godfrey of the West Yorkshire Police encountered a bright object blocking the road while on patrol in Todmorden. His subsequent account of missing time and, under hypnosis, alien contact makes this one of Britain’s most significant abduction cases.
The Encounter
PC Godfrey was investigating reports of cattle on the loose when he observed a bright, rotating object hovering above the road ahead. He attempted to radio for backup but experienced interference. He sketched the object before losing consciousness.
The Missing Time
Godfrey found himself further along the road with no memory of how he got there. He had lost approximately thirty minutes of time. His boot was split, though he had no memory of damaging it.
The Hypnosis
Under hypnotic regression, Godfrey recalled being taken aboard a craft. He described small, robot-like beings and a tall figure in a robe who conducted a medical examination. The memories were distressing and fragmented.
The Investigation
The case was investigated by UFO researchers and received significant media attention. Godfrey’s position as a serving police officer gave his account credibility. He passed polygraph tests about his experience.
The Career Impact
Godfrey’s willingness to speak about his experience had consequences for his police career. He faced ridicule from colleagues but maintained the truth of his account. He left the force and continued to discuss his experience.
Assessment
The Todmorden abduction represents one of Britain’s most credible abduction cases. PC Godfrey’s profession, the physical evidence of his damaged boot, and his consistent account create a compelling case that has never been explained.
