The Valensole Encounter

Maurice Masse was a lavender farmer in Valensole, Provence. On the morning of July 1, 1965, he encountered a landed craft and two small beings in his field. The case is notable for its physical evidence, witness credibility, and detailed investigation.

The Encounter

At around 5:45 AM, Masse heard a whistling sound while inspecting his lavender field. He saw an oval craft resting on six legs near a row of lavender plants. Two small beings stood nearby examining the plants.

The Beings

The creatures were about four feet tall with large bald heads, smooth gray skin, and large slanted eyes. They wore one-piece green suits. They had small mouths and no visible ears. They communicated with each other through gestures and sounds.

The Paralysis

When Masse approached, one being pointed a tube at him. He was immediately paralyzed but remained conscious. The beings entered their craft, which rose silently and shot away at tremendous speed. His paralysis lasted approximately twenty minutes.

The Evidence

The landing site showed a depression and evidence of extreme heating. Lavender plants near the site died and would not grow for ten years. Soil analysis showed unusual mineral changes. The physical traces were documented and studied.

The Investigation

French authorities including the Gendarmerie investigated. Masse was a respected member of his community, a former Resistance fighter, and known for his honesty. He initially refused to discuss the case and never sought publicity.

The Aftermath

Masse experienced lasting effects. He developed unusual fatigue and required more sleep. He became convinced the beings were not malevolent. He maintained his account until his death in 2004.

Assessment

The Valensole case is considered among the most credible close encounters in UFO history. Physical evidence, witness credibility, official investigation, and lasting effects combine to create a compelling case for genuine contact.
