The Westall UFO Incident

On April 6, 1966, over 200 students and teachers at Westall High School in Melbourne, Australia, witnessed a UFO descend and land in a nearby paddock before taking off again. The mass sighting remains one of the best-documented school UFO events.

The Morning

At approximately 11:00 AM, students and teachers observed a grey, saucer-shaped object descend from the sky. It landed in a paddock near the school, remaining on the ground for approximately 20 minutes before ascending rapidly and disappearing.

The Witnesses

Over 200 students and staff observed the object. Many ran toward it. Some got close enough to see it clearly on the ground. Several other objects, possibly aircraft, were seen in the vicinity during the encounter.

The Response

Shortly after the object departed, men in dark suits arrived and ordered students back to class. Teachers were told not to discuss the incident. A circular impression was found in the grass where the object had landed.

The Cover-Up

Students who spoke about the sighting were threatened with expulsion. Teachers who discussed it faced career consequences. Despite this, the event became widely known. Witnesses have spoken publicly for decades.

The Documentary

In 2010, a documentary “Westall ‘66” gathered numerous witnesses who had remained silent for over 40 years. Their consistent accounts, despite decades of separation, provide compelling testimony.

Assessment

The Westall incident is distinguished by its large number of witnesses, daylight conditions, and landing traces. The official suppression of discussion paradoxically preserved the story, as witnesses waited until retirement to speak freely.
