The Westall Mass Sighting
Over 200 students and teachers witnessed a UFO land near their school.
The Westall Mass Sighting
On April 6, 1966, over 200 students and staff at Westall High School in Melbourne witnessed a disc-shaped craft descend, appear to land in a nearby paddock, then depart at incredible speed. It remains Australia’s largest mass UFO sighting.
The Sighting
During morning recess, students and teachers observed a silvery, disc-shaped object descending over pine trees at the edge of the school. It appeared to land in “The Grange,” a grassy area, then rose and departed rapidly.
The Witnesses
Students from multiple classes, teachers, and a science teacher observed the event. Some students ran toward the landing site. One girl reached the area first and reportedly collapsed. A circle of flattened grass marked the spot.
The Cover-Up
Within hours, unidentified officials arrived. Students and teachers were warned not to discuss what they saw. Some were threatened with consequences. The landing area was reportedly cordoned off.
The Aftermath
Despite official discouragement, witnesses have spoken out over the years. A 2006 reunion brought together original witnesses who confirmed their accounts remained consistent after 40 years.
Assessment
Westall is extraordinary for its number of witnesses, their consistent accounts over decades, and the apparent official cover-up. Whatever landed at Westall that day, the Australian government worked to suppress the truth.
