Warwick Castle
One of the finest medieval castles in England, Warwick has accumulated nearly a millennium of ghosts.
Sir Fulke Greville
The most famous ghost is Sir Fulke Greville, First Baron Brooke:
- A poet, statesman, and friend of Philip Sidney
- In 1628, his servant Ralph Hayward stabbed him
- The dispute was over Greville’s will
- Hayward then killed himself
- Greville died three weeks later from infection
His ghost appears in the tower where he died:
- A tall figure in Elizabethan dress
- Pacing the room where he was stabbed
- Accompanied by cold spots
- Most active on the anniversary of his death
The Ghost Tower
Now called the “Ghost Tower” for a reason:
- Unexplained footsteps at night
- Doors opening and closing
- A figure seen at the window from outside
- Staff refuse to enter alone after dark
Other Spirits
The Dungeon
Prisoners held here over centuries still linger:
- Moaning and chains rattling
- Scratching on walls
- A sense of despair
- Cold hands touching visitors
Sir Guy’s Tower
Named for the legendary Sir Guy of Warwick:
- Armored footsteps on stairs
- The shadow of a knight
- Medieval atmosphere
The Great Hall
- Phantom banquets heard at night
- Ghostly laughter and music
- A Grey Lady drifting through the room
Warwick Castle offers ghost tours and overnight experiences in the Ghost Tower.
